European Parliament: number, powers and responsibilities of committees after the elections

The European Parliament adopted, on 29 January 2004, a resolution on the number, powers and responsibilities of committees increasing the number of committees from 17 to 20 valid after the European elections.

Regarding the current Environment, Public Health and Consumer Policy Committee, the House decided to hand over consumer protection to the internal market committee, but leaving the environment body with key powers over food safety and public health.

The new 20 Committees are:
