DG Agriculture launches Healthy Eating Campaign for children
CPME publication date: Tuesday, October 6, 2009“The Tasty Bunch” are the newest initiative launched by the Commission to promote a healthy lifestyle among children. The roadshow which hosts a variety of characters will tour different schools across several Member States and offer programmes for children under the motto of “Eat it, Drink it, Move it”. This initiative will complement the existing School Milk Scheme and School Fruit Scheme.
This initiative is a reaction to the high rates of obesity persisting among school children. The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mariann Fischer Boel, welcomed parallel programmes by DG SANCO in the campaign to improve children’s nutrition, but also pointed to the responsibility of parents to ensure a healthy lifestyle for their children.
